Emerging Author Al Lucas

The Leaping Lore of Lucas!
LucasLore.com is your web portal into recovery humor and the fiction of author Al Lucas. Recovery humor makes fun of the alcoholics and dopers of recovery, especially himself. Al will heal you through laughter. Rehabilitation in a hospital isn’t necessary.
Like all things human, we tend to ‘pick at’ what we do, at a pace most pleasing to us. Our success rate? Well, progress, not perfection. We are obviously in no hurry.
So, at your leisure, indulge me, in the Step Series, products of al al land.
Al is your host, whose main character, Paul Undres introduces you to his world, a orbital set of far flung stratagems that defy acceptance, an AA principle. How willing, another principle, is Paul willing to go? Paul’s willingness balks at acceptance. He can’t seem to make life seamless. Instead it’s one awkward moment after another.  His honesty takes you where he was to the high-fives of now.
The Step Series books with Paul Undres are five books of recovery follies, centered around AA meetings, an AA girlfriend, and social commentary. For those thirsty for adventure, escape with him as you seek to escape from the trying gripe of your own mind in a mind numbing fashion toward liberation, not libation.

The remaining books are adventures into social commentary. Like, for example, Pan and the Pandemic and Bon Mot and the Election of 2016.

THE BOOKS, CULT OBJECTS OF RECOVERY

    Impounding

     The Pound

The book is a narrative of paradigm shifts for Pau, the protagonist, in a day by day occurrence as he inches closer to the midterms.

It is a psychological study a man bereft of values excepting himself and how he stacks up in a society equally bereft.

AL’S Latest BOOK!

HIGH STEPPIN’

It is a first person adventure coming behind the third person version printed first that you see right below as Hi’ Steppin’ with his high school photo on the cover.
This version captures the essence of the author’s fascination with communication techniques, namely the use of italics. You like it because it’s crazy. Come and get it. As for theme and structure, read the book that follows, the third person version. It details the same story from a different point of view.

Paul’s choices took him on adventures, far and wide. Lots of trials. Lots of tribulations. Life’s absurdities are bad enough, but spice ’em up a bit with drugs and alcohol, and you get—Paul Undres!

Eventually, Paul finds himself clear of drugs and alcohol.. Good thing too, because life’s absurdities go on, as you can probably tell.

   Hi Steppin’

This is the second version in which Al Lucas dutifully creates a pseudo autobiography that even remotes cares for facts. Here we have Paul Undres hanging out in the lobby of James A. Haley VA hospital seeking shelter from the bad things he was doing, namely smoking crack and drinking too much.  It is from a transition house to Avon Park dual diagnosis center that he finally accepts his alcoholism and drug addiction, yet finds that is not enough. There is more to life than simple clean time. How much more was the question.

He asks how definitive must a man to tell a story of reasonable conjecture from a viewpoint of a victim? He finds himself in eerily  similar circumstances as that of his protagonist i.e. Tampa, the hood, AA, etc. Whatever can be said about author Al Lucas consider it said.

A Step Down

Paul after twelve years later finds another gift lay just doesn’t cut it. He still deals with issues more important like his thinking. Unable to yet dig deep and exorcise his beliefs about himself, he finds himself in trouble again as  he once again seeks pleasure outside himself. He sees the irony of being a freeloader as he lands in jail where everything is free except his time.

The author finds himself adequately recovered from his first book: The First Step, Hi’ Steppin’, and is in a state of total relaxation while his protagonist takes a much different path. Unable to control his sexual desires, he balls the wrong girl and well…read and find out.

Now where’s my bank card?

                                                                                                                           Coughing Nails

Paul didn’t die in Mr. Lucas’s last piece of recovery humor, and upon release from jail he becomes preoccupied with his last vestige of immorality, i.e., his cigarette habit. From outlandish surgeries to making Tampa a smoke free city, he lobbies for calendar recognition of Death Day, a smoker’s fondest wish. Actually, smokers like smoke that wafers upward and beyond. But  it is not only smoke that bothers Paul, it his fiancé. Failing to reform her, he submits her to his life saving surgeon who does what he cannot, stop her drinking. It all ends mercifully on the day of his matrimony with mind exploding bang.

Al Lucas, the author, was born in New York and never got over the paranoia. Happily he has quit smoking thus extending his time here. Currently he is at a distance from all previous acquaintances, but has much hope for the world despite its reversals.

A Dream Sequence                                                                                                                                                                   Admist the Chaos

In The Fourth Step, a Dream Sequence, Paul dreams of having children–not the only infantile notion he nourishes. He races to a romance with a Jewish maiden whose father owns the Bucs, a woeful NFL football team.
Awakening, he realizes no matter how petty his machinations, they were not as petty as the beheadings, the strangulations, the burnings, the suicide bombings which cast their darkness on the everyday world.
Al Lucas hails from the same site in which this and all his novellas take place, Tampa. Fabled institutions like Medicare, the VA, Social Security, food stamps, monthly checks in general, are part of his diet, a condition he shares with his protagonist, Paul Undres, who in turn, shares with you.  Fact sharing is a big thing in Mr. Lucas’s realistic fiction.

The only recourse is to marry wealth. From hilarious bouts with various females of varying substance he fails in each and every one.

He finally finds a job he can appreciate upon death, custodial of the world, i.e., to sweep the heavens.Author Al Lucas hails from Tampa as is well known.

He is the last living baby boomer he brags. Aphorisms, adages, and maxims apply in a world he simply spells out.

Oh, dictionaries help too.  Al uses the damnedest words. What the heck is an aphorism anyway?

Bon Mot decides he’s better off with a better half, three times he does, in fact do this.

And who says: “Women can’t be President?”  Don’t know. But it damn sure isn’t Bon Mot!

Bon Mot marries three times in the course of this book, and not to just anyone.

And the Meaning

     of Wife

[su_divider]

Mister Bon Mot

Mister Bon Mot has it down now. A tip of the hat, a flourish of the pen, he details in his White Paper the debate on Capitol Hill as an exercise in Ponzi politics.
He evolves as do the candidates in the Paper that turns culturally sensitive instead of merely fiscally pronounced.
His girlfriend of long standing, not good standing, loses her life in the hood and he is duped by suspicious housing security. In the end he takes to the woods where his core values have a chance to take in a little sunshine and fresh air.
And some redness.

This is a cryptic allusion to the author’s first name, Al. There turn out to be many Al’s and many Alice’s with stepchildren Allen and Alan as well as Al Jr.

Al takes on his personal take of the Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions as well as the Ten Commandments and the Boy Scout Code.

 Pan And The

    Pandemic

.

While scientists are working hard on understanding this new contagion, Al has already figured it out. It’s a satyr, Pan, who has returned under the behest of Zeus atop Mount Olympus.

Actually it is the messing around of Chinese chemists in the art of the metaphysical who allow for his reemergence on the world stage. Pan is a brute as he dispenses his virus.

Then again, he might not be all that bad.  While a beast, he deals with his chauvinism in a most unconventional manner

Paul, the writer, starts with one girl, Cherie, the crackhead, goes to another BB, the Black, and ends with Mime, who cons him with different approach to publication, namely the author pays the readerwhile he is on the fast track of telling the world exactly how much time is left.

Several questions are posed as the midterms near.

One, being do we care? The other, of course not.
